Imagine being chauffeured around from one fabulous show room to another seeing inspiring new Spring trends while being treated to great food, great conversation and lots and lots of goodies. Well thanks to Yvonne Blacker of Designer Bath and Boston Magazine a group of Boston Designer/bloggers (myself included) had such a day. The event is called Passport to Design and at the end of this post I will share how you too can participate and enter to win a $20,000 design prize ($4,000 from each of 5 showrooms). This post is a little long so grab a cup of coffee as I take you on the tour.
Our day began with breakfast at Circle Furniture in Danvers . We were welcomed with a short introduction by the charming Sean William.
We were asked to share a few of our favorite things and this Green chair and ottoman from American Leather was definitely a blogger favorite. Everyone was drooling over this set and since Emerald Green is the “official” color for 2013 it is right on trend.
Circle Furniture is such a happy colorful store and I love that you can get most of their furniture in a rainbow of different colors and a huge assortment of fabrics.
Peacocks are very trending right now..both the bird itself and the rich Blue Green Colors. If you are looking to add this trend to your room I spotted a beautiful framed Peacock print.
Our next stop on the tour was Tile By Design, also in Danvers. We were greeted by the owner pouring us Champagne.I think it was around 11am by hey, no one was driving!
Tile by Design has so many choices, colors and styles that it is seemingly impossible to not find the perfect tile for your project. According to the owner, glass tiles are still very trending and they come in a huge assortment of colors, shapes and sizes.
Gray and White patch work and “basket weave” patterns are also very popular right now
as are floor tiles that look like bleached and weather wood. I love these…the look of wood but the durability of tile. How perfect are these for a beach house, a house full of kids and dogs or a kitchen? These are definitely going on my wish list.
Our next stop on the tour was Designer Bath in Beverly. This is Yvonne’s home store and not only were we treated to a delicious lunch but a goodie bag filled with all sorts of wonderful treats..including a bathrobe!
As part of the fun, Yvonne asked us to pick our favorite faucet but I had a really difficult time choosing just one as there were so many beautiful ones to choose from.
I did finally settle on this simple contemporary one by Water Decor called Nirvana.
A close second was this shapely one from Brizo called Veulo. I couldn’t get a good photo of it because of a spot light back lighting it but this is what it looks like. It looks like a beautiful Silver and Black swan to me..love it!
This vanity below caught my eye and Yvonne said it was brand new to the show room. I couldn’t help but notice the “weathered wood” look. So different from the dark espresso brown vanities that were so popular just a few years back.
hammered metals are also trending right now and I found these two hammered metal sinks. The Copper one on top is also going on my wish list!
I spotted more glass tiles at Designer Bath along with this glass vanity top that is lit from below. No need for a night light if this is in your bathroom and it comes in several different colors.
The fabulous Landry and Arcari in Salem was stop number 4 on our tour. We were treated to a wonderful informative talk about different types of rugs and shown all the new trends.
Very popular right now are silk rugs that look like water colors
as well as rugs rich with texture (notice the non traditional colors as well)
Animal hides are also very popular right now…I definitely have mixed feeling about this..but we were told the hides are only from animals who are already dead in the wild. In other words no animals were sacrificed for this trend. Remember the photo from Tile By Design with the gray and white patch work look?
The animal hides come in the same patch work look.
Sculptured hides are also very popular.
Landry and Arcari also carries a huge inventory of hand woven traditional Orientals
as well as a large selection of wall to wall carpets and specialty carpets like these colorful woven water proof carpets that would be perfect in a bathroom.
A little snack (I’m sure it had been at least 45 minutes since lunch) including “goat tea” and we were off to our final show room.
Lucia’s Lighting in Lynn was our last stop (with more Champagne and treats) and lights galore! Lucia’s has everything and anything related to lighting. ceiling lights, table lights, pendant lights, inside and outside lights. The owner is so knowledgeable and the customer service is outstanding. Everyone is so willing to answer questions and help you find the best light for the job.
Lucia’s has some of the most beautiful and unique hand blown glass lights. Here are a few of my favorites.
don’t you just love the shadows these create on the wall? I also love these “kush Ball” lights. How fun for a rec room, child’s room or above a bar.
These wall mounted lights were also very unique. The “shower cap” like covers can be swapped out for a variety of different colors.
Even though we all were suffering from design overload (and too much champagne) we had so much fun that it was sad to see the tour end. Here is our group of Bloggers.
