Today’s the big day!! It’s show and tell day for twenty designers who signed on to transform a room in six short weeks. It is the Fall 2018 One Room Challenge reveal. I am both nervous and excited to show you my space but mostly, relieved I finished.
Before I get to the photos I want to thank a few people. A big thank you to Linda of the One Room Challenge who invited me on this roller coaster of a ride for a second time. I don’t want to think that our master bedroom would still be looking like the before photos, but in all likelihood it might. Another big thank you to all the generous sponsors who made my master bedroom design come to life. I am grateful for every product that was sent for my ORC transformation. Lastly, thank you to ORC media sponsor Better Homes and Gardens.
Since today is all about the after photos I want to give a shout out to my friend and photographer, Emily O’Brien. She pushed our scheduled Friday shoot out to Monday so that all my items could make it into my room. Emily then went above and beyond and edited all the photos that same day (late into the night) so I could have them in time to write this post.
To find out more in depth details about the items in my room you can read my previous weeks posts.

If you have been following my One Room Challenge from the beginning then you know I chose to make over our master bedroom and adjoining master closet and bath. “Make over” is somewhat misleading because those spaces were never “made” in the first place. We had only been in our condo several weeks when the call came in to participate in the ORC. We were living in a pretty dismal state of clutter and mess so of course I jumped at the chance to create one fully decorated and finished space.
Since I did three spaces I am going to reveal each one separately, starting with the bedroom.
Master Bedroom Before
In order to refresh your memory, here are the very embarrassing before photos.Things were just plunked down where the movers left them and it was a hot mess.

There was no place to put the TV in our new living room so it ended up in the bedroom.

Drapes from our previous house with the pins balancing directly on the molding was my husbands attempt to block out a high powered spot light shining into the room.

The only positive thing I can think to say, is that it was so bad that no matter what I decided to do for the ORC would be an improvement.

Master Bedroom After
I began my design with the beautiful Fabricut Margulies blue wallpaper and the Jane Churchill headboard fabric in Paradise Garden. My inspiration was the Kit Kemp designed Fermdale hotels which are full of patterns and color yet peaceful at the same time. I am so happy with how it turned out and I have to pinch myself that this is now my bedroom.
Paint: Ceiling: Benjamin Moore Atmosphere, walls: Benjamin Moore Classic Gray / Rug: Landry and Arcari / Bedskirt: Fabricut Good To Go in color 01 / Bed Skirt lining: Fabricut Grenade: color #23 / Yellow blanket: Target Headboard: Custom designed Linda Holt / Headboard Fabric: Jane Churchill Paradise Garden for Cowtan and Tout
Wallpaper: Fabricut Margulies / Night Stands: Hayneedle / Reading lamps: Laconia Hudson Valley Lighting / Artwork: Linda Holt Creative sheets and Pillow cases: Roostery
It is so nice to have a reading/relaxing area in the bedroom. The walnut and steel book cases from Article are perfect on either side of the chairs. It’s been almost two years since I’ve had a place to display my favorite books and accessories.
Swivel chairs: Circle Furniture Rosie chair/ Leopard pillows: SWD Studio/ Yellow pedestal table: Pier One/ Bookcases: Article
Drapery Fabric: Robert Allen Belle Bloom in Sunray/ Drapery Trim: Fabricut Grenade color #23
Reading Lamps: The Possini swing arm in satin nickel from Lamps Plus
Malachite Book ends: Couture Lamps from my ORC Spring 2018
Painting: Pamela Copeman Art
Silver Box: Couture Lamps/ Chair painting: Susan Siefer art
Herb Pot: Jill Rosenwald
We now have all the clothes storage we need between the new closet and this beautiful Sojourn Dresser: Universal Furniture
Lamp base: Couture lamps / Custom shade: Jill Seale/ Painting: Pamela Copeman Art
When styling the bed with pillows I started with three 26″ x 26″ pillows from Arianne Belle.
Next I layered in the two king pillows that came with the Blue and white gingham sheet set from Roostery.
Finally I added two custom queen pillow shames and one bolster pillow. Two standard pillow shams: Fabricut Devon fabric with Jonah trim Bolster pillow: Jane Churchill Lucas fabric for Cowtan and Tout.
Do you recognize the yellow framed art over the nightstands? Those are the frames from the ugly art I bought at the habitat restore. I painted them a happy yellow and and I created the art with my iPhone.
In an earlier post I shared that our ceilings are only slightly over 7′ high. Metrie had the perfect solution and this particular molding tricks the eye into believing the ceilings are taller than they are. Most of what you see with this molding is on the ceiling not on the wall.
Master closet Before
I honestly have few words to explain the dismal state of our closet. My only excuse is that the builder basic closet did not function for our needs. We needed drawers and there were only shelves.
Master Closet AFTER
Building the closet was my husband’s project. He ordered the cabinets online and two weekends later we had a beautiful new closet with much needed drawers.
I love our new semi flush chandelier. It makes me feel so elegant every time I walk in the room. It is the Broche semi flush from Crystorama The color and texture relates to the Nantucket baskets and the gold trim on the top of the chair.
Other than the new bookcases from Article, our condo has no place to display collectibles. Now that we have plenty of drawers for our clothes, I decided to use the shelves to display personal treasured objects. Every item on the shelves has a special meaning of significance. The Humpy Dumpy egg was a Christmas gift from my husband when we were first dating! The piggy bank above it I have owned since childhood.
To add some color I used a couple pieces of art from Minted. The piece on the top is Architecture of Flow by melanie mikecz . The one in the middle is Blue Agave by Amanda Phelps
The closet system came with cheap hardware so I ordered the sleek Satin nickel hardware from ORC sponsor Schuab. Silver storage boxes from ORC sponsor Couture Lamps
Here is a looking up view of that gorgeous ceiling light from Crytorama.
Master Bathroom Before
As I had previously shared, I like the bones of the master bathroom. What I didn’t like, or get a say in when they were building our unit, were the fixtures. Since I was improving the master bedroom and closet I decided to take the opportunity to upgrade the fixtures. I chose new sconces, hardware, faucets and shower heads.
Master Bathroom After
Upgrading the fixtures has made such a difference in the bathroom. It went from nice to wow! The new wall sconces are the Pella in antique silver from Crystorama .They are a thousand times nicer than the builder basic sconces we originally had. The circular design looks great with the movement of the marble. The walls also got a new color: Benjamin Moore Perspective. I chose a green blue to work with both the marble and the color of the cabinetry.
Another upgrade that makes me so happy are the new Metropol faucets from ORC sponsor Hansgrohe. The polished chrome looks much better with the cool toned marble counter top than the previous warm tone satin nickel. The clean contemporary lines are also more in tone with the look I wanted.
Shay Geyer of IBB Design, who is also one of the twenty featured designers, sent the orchid from her online store. Our bathroom is an inside room so there is no natural light. I love a plant in the bathroom to soften all the hard surfaces and a faux plant was my only choice. This orchid is so realistic looking it’s virtually impossible to tell it is faux.
I chose one more piece of art from Minted to coordinate with an existing watercolor. It is Dawn Light by Lise Gulassa
One of the sponsors of the ORC this Fall was Couristan Carpet. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a rug that would work in the bedroom but they sent me a small sample of one of their new indoor outdoor rugs and it looks great in the bathroom. You can see it peaking out in the photo below. It’s very soft and since it’s inside/outside I don’t have to worry about water.
Remember the story of my struggle finding a hardware replacement for an odd C to C measurement? These Luminere pulls and knobs from Schuab worked out perfectly. As it turns out the Lucite rods were adjustable. We carefully shortened the C to C by a fraction of a centimeter and there was no need to drill new holes.
The new shower system from ORC sponsor Hansgrohe has made both my husband and I very happy. He has his big rain shower head and I have my Chroma Select hand unit. They are both attached to the Chroma SAM pole.
A new Emtek towel ring and matching Emtek 30″ towel bar are so much nicer than the origional builder grade. The biggest problem with the origional towel bar is that is was too small at only 22″ wide. The towels were never able to fully dry because they were bunched up on one another. Now they sit side by side with plenty of room to dry.
I also upgraded from an over the door hook to this beautiful Emtek chrome door hook. It is like a little sculptural delight behind that door.
Emtek also provided an upgrade on our door knobs with these round knobs with a rectangular back plate. It’s one more small detail that elevates the whole feeling of luxury in the room.
The final two images are items I purchased from my recent trip to High Point Market. These pretty botanical prints are from Lo Forti Fine Prints. They were so kind to put a super rush on my order so that they would arrive in time for my photo shoot. They arrived just in the nick of time!
I forgot to have Emily take a close up of my Egyptian Water Lily so I took this one this morning. It is from Bliss Studio and has a perfect spot on my bedside table.
Wow! That was a lot of photos. I think I covered everything and am happy to say, that’s a wrap on the Fall 2018 One Room Challenge.
I’m so excited to see all the other designer’s reveals. There have been some very ambitious undertakings and some nail biting setbacks. Fingers crossed everyone finished.
Don’t forget to check in on all the link designers on Thursday. I know I will be doing a lot of reading over the next few days.
Linda, all I can say is WOW! You must be thrilled. Your space certainly looks like a boutique hotel. Wishing you many happy sweet dreams!
Thank you so much for the kind words Sheri!
Woweeee!!!!! I knew this would be so amazing. I’m up really early getting my son off to school and I thought immediately that I must see Linda’s room. You did not disappoint. I LOVE the headboard and wallpaper and just that gorgeous color scheme in general. Your photos are always so engaging – I feel like I’m in the room enjoying it. What a difference from the before photos. Amazing job Linda!
Awe, thank you so much Veronica. I finally “allowed” us to sleep in there for the first time last night😂!
Looks amazing! I love all the colour!
Thank you Andrea! Off to check out yours and the others right now!
Awesome, awesome, awesome! The Husband and I don’t have a master suite or closet (Hoping they’ll be a part of our spring reno! Fingers crossed.) Love the unusual color palette of denim and yellow and the way you layer your patterns — wallpaper, headboard, drapes — so beautifully. Well done. Go take a nap in that gorgeous bed. You deserve it!
Thank you Amy. I was almost hesitant to start using the room. I just wanted to admire it from the doorway! We finally moved back in last night.
Another stunning project, Linda! Blown away by your exquisite styling – elegant and accessible. Bravissima!
Thank you my sweet friend. I so appreciate your comment.
Good morning, Linda! All I can say is WOW! It just looks beautiful. I think you win the *bookcase styling* award! Each little vignette is a work of art. And I love how you used that moulding from Metrie + that stunning headboard you designed to make your 7 foot ceilings look so much taller.
I can only imagine how good it feels to sleep in there now, and to have everything so organized and pristine.
Congratulations on another great result…and that Jill Seale lampshade and Shay Geyer’s orchid? Icing on the cake!
Thank you Leslie! You always have the most thoughtful comments and I am grateful you took the time to comment. I appreciate every word!
Your new bedroom is absolutely stunning! You have truly found your calling!
You are so kind, thank you Kristen!
A master. You pulled it off, and it absolutely feels like the inspiration hotel rooms. The headboard is fantastic. The crown molding trick is really does fool the eye. And all the little things, like changing hardware and faucets and builder grade lights, all those little things instantly upgrade a home. They make such a difference!
The window treatments, the swivel chairs, the bookcases… this is where it shows you’re a pro at mixing styles and finishes.
And I love your rhino! It reminds me of my wooden pig in my ORC.
I could go on…
I hope you get some rest now, and you and your husband enjoy your (now) peaceful retreat!
Thank you so much Christine. I so appreciate you taking the time to comment because I know how busy you are. BTW, that rhino belonged to my parents and it has to be at least 50 years old. It was one of the few things I kept from their house after they passed.
Stunning & elegant!!!
Love the layers of color and texture! Beautifully done. Now time to enjoy! ~~ Susie from The Chelsea Project
This is more beautiful and more special than I could have ever dreamed it would be!! You thought of every detail to make the space spectacular!! How did you ever do all of this is such a few short weeks?!! The colors, textures, and finishes are simply stunning. Your table tops and bookcases are so cheerful and special. Your space feels personal, elegant, and cozy!! I am so excited to have you come back up to Ipswich to help us. Absolutely gorgeous Linda!! Great Job!!!
Nice job Linda! I loved the color palette, and the beautiful headboard. Your sitting area looks cozy, what a pretty space to relax in after this challenge!
Thanks Elle! I didn’t realize how much this Challenge took out of me! I think I need a week of sitting in that reading area! Too bad it’s right back to client work for me.
All the details you’ve gone for are so fabulous, really add that extra something to the overall look.
Thank you Jecks! I’m so glad you like it.
Linda, Linda, Linda!!!!
WOWWWWWIE! These rooms are absolutely perfect, they show the attention to detail on each and every single item. Even better they show off your fun, bubbly personality to a T!
You will have many happy years in your beautiful new home surrounded by items that make you smile each time you walk into the rooms.
Much love, Jil
Awe, thank you so much Jil. I so appreciate your nice comment!
This is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! I love the colors and play on patterns!
Thank you Kelly! I wanted color and pattern but I also didn’t want it to feel too busy or chaotic.
Beautifully done. Congratulations on yet another successful One Room Challenge. There are too many pieces that I love about your renovation to list here. The best part is that you get to enjoy it now and hopefully get some much needed rest. Way to go! Beautiful transformation. Enjoy it to the fullest. You deserve it.
Thank you so much Marina. It still doesn’t quite feel like “home” yet because I can’t believe I have such a nice room. Looking forward to your reveal tomorrow!
WOW, now every night can be a relaxing getaway. Congrats on a job well done.
Thank you Susan. You killed it with your bathroom. I’m in awe!
WOWEEEEE!!
I can’t believe how much you took on — and you killed it on all of the spaces!
I especially love the mix of yellow + blue. So classic but fresh.
And that closet makeover — unrecognizable!
KUDOS!!
Thank you Kelly. I was desperate to get the closet fixed if I was going to do the bedroom. The bathroom was just the icing on the cake!
What a transformation!! I love so many things about this! I love your headboard, the trim on the curtains…that chair in your closet! So many things! What a lovely and special bedroom! Congratulations! Enjoy!
Thank you so much!
WOW! What a triumph this room is! Beautiful job, Linda! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the headboard you designed – it pulls together the whole room. The styling and photography are all perfect too (of course they are!) Congratulations!

This is just stunning, every little detail, love it!

It’s all just stunning especially that headboard. Can’t believe you did this in six weeks!
Beautiful!! I love the light fixture in the master closet and the headboard is SO PRETTY. Well done!
Thank you so much Rachel!
This turned out beautifully. I love the crown molding trick.
Thanks Nicole! I’m putting the same molding in a client’s low ceiling living room after seeing the difference it made in our bedroom.
Simply beautiful! You are an inspiration!
Thank you Susan!

You are so kind Angela, thank you.
I bet you feel like you checked into a resort every night when you head to bed! Simply gorgeous!
Definitely hotel worthy. After the BDC, this was a piece of cake :). Every single detail is lovely and well thought out. Your headboard design is perfect and the mix of colors makes it feel welcoming. Great job.
Gorgeous Linda, you are at the top of my next post
! xoxo
Thank you so much Maria! I am so honored and grateful!
What an amazing transformation! I love everything about this. xo Nicole
Thank you so much Nicole. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
You must be thrilled! What a fabulous renovation showing your talent AND personality. I can tell you’re a fellow True Color Expert! Your tones blend beautifully. Well done. I’ve finally gotten on board with your blog, too, and immediately installed Snapseed. Thanks for sharing your talents!
Thank you so much again Gina! Maria’s class changed my life and started me on the path to Interior Design.
Love your taste and style. I’d love to know where the metal lily is from.
Thank you so much Vicki. The metal lily is from Bliss Home.
What a beautiful room! I’m a recent graduate of Maria’s course, too, and I hope to design a room as beautiful as this.
Linda, Love everything you did & envy your flat walls as I don’t dare use wallpaper on textured walls in Florida. Thinking (a lot) about the chair in the closet as I’ve always thought you needed a huge closet to do this … thanks for sharing
It seems like I’ve commented everywhere else online, but not here on your blog! You did an amazing job and I love your bedroom! Another win and one that makes a great statement about what you can do as a designer and visionary. Congrats on a job well done!
Thank you so much Carla. Your comment means so much to me since you are someone who’s design talents I admire so very much.
This is so beautiful! I have definitely saved the link to that amazing light fixture in the closet, but I’m dying to know – how is the light output from it? I’m curious if all those beautiful leaves block much of the light.
Hi Krystal, The light gives out great light. There are four 60 watt bulbs in it so I have no problem at all with not enough light.
Perfect, thanks!
So gorgeous on all levels!!
Great post
